Chickadee Bakeshop has ribbon cutting to mark re-opening

Chickadee Bakeshop in Snoqualmie has marked its re-opening, nearly a year and a half after the shop closed due to a fire.

The SnoValley Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community celebration at Chickadee on Oct. 6. The shop, a community favorite, was one of the businesses devastated in an electrical fire April 14, 2024.

By May 2024, the owners of Chickadee — Dorie Ross and Katie Podschwit — had secured a lease at 8150 Railroad Ave. But preparing the property to house a bakery took more than a year.

Chickadee’s main roadblock to reopening was securing the appropriate power, and getting all of their funding.

The shop had to replace all equipment and supplies. They had a community online fundraiser and between that and their insurance, they were able to purchase essential baking equipment as well as initial ingredients and supplies to get baking again.

Chickadee had a “soft” reopening July 26 and has been back serving the community for a couple of months. It has all sorts of sweet treats, from cookies and brownies to muffins and full pies.
