Umpqua Bank will host a free workshop on solar power, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 in the community room of the bank, located at 146 W 2nd St. in North Bend. The workshop is a collaboration with the cities of Snoqualmie and North Bend, plus Northwest Wind and Solar.
Solarize Snoqualmie is a group purchase or “bulk buy” program offering residents in North Bend and Snoqualmie affordable home solar installations. Participants will save up to 10 percent more than if they bought and installed solar panels independently, and can earn back 35 percent of their investments in the first year.
“Rob Wotton at Umpqua really championed the cause,” said Nicole Sanders, Associate Planner at the City of Snoqualmie. “He worked with the installer to extend the program discount, so more people have the chance to participate.”

In 2015, members of more than 180 households attended the workshops; 30 area homes have now contracted to install solar power equipment.
