The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for portions of Northwest and West Central Washington, including King, Lewis, Pierce, Snohomish, Thurston, Clallam, Grays Harbor, Jefferson, Kitsap, Mason, Skagit and Whatcom Counties.
Starting Friday, rain is projected to be heavy at times, particlarly in the mountains, where 4 to 8 inches of rain are projected in the next 48 hours. Some models forecast more than 12 inches of rain in the Mount Rainier area. The precipitation will cause sharp rises in area rivers and minor flooding is possible on some rivers Saturday morning. The flood watch continues through Sunday.
A flood watch means conditions are favorable for flooding but flooding is not occurring, or imminent. Monitor the National Weather Service forecasts, www.wrh.noaa.gov/sew, or the King County Flood Warning System, www.kingcounty.gov/flood, for the most current information.
