Jeanne Hansen Park opening Friday

It’s finally happening. The city of Snoqualmie voted to amend its contract with Jeanne Hansen Park developer Centex and sign a bill of sale to accept early ownership of Jeanne Hansen Park at the Monday, March 23 city council meeting.

After the fence is torn down on Friday, the park will open to the public.

“On Friday, the residents are going to be really happy,” Dan Marcinko, director of the Public Work Department, said at the meeting.

Marcinko praised Nancy Davidson, public works operations manager, for her work in pushing forward on the slow-moving project and for building beneficial relationships with engineers and contractors.

Some work remains to be done at the park, but “there are no life-safety issues,” Davidson said.  “It’s primarily work associated with the storm-water pond,” which she said is separately fenced off from the park. A grass field will also remain fenced off until the summer.

As part of the contract change, the city secured a 150 percent performance bond, which translates to $60,000 in coverage for the estimated $40,000 in work still to be done. Centex has until July 31 to finish remaining construction.

“The bond assures us that the work they have remaining will get done between now and the end of July,” Davidson assured.

Foreshadowing the public excitement to come, PJ Rodriguez, Snoqualmie’s IT manager, leaned toward Marcinko during Davidson’s report to the council and whispered, “My daughter’s going to send you some cookies.”

City council members mused on the best way to notify the public about the opening. Mayor Matt Larson quipped, “The press release will state, ‘As we stated at the grand opening, the park is open,'” eliciting a roomful of laughs.
