Snoqualmie Elementary School is getting prepared for their annual Walk-A-Thon, Thursday, Oct. 16. This event is filled with school spirit and friendly competition, as children walk as many laps as they can, and raise money doing it. Last year, students raised over $43,000 for the school. Local businesses are asked to help and donate.
“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Diana Reul-Shapiro, Snoqualmie Elementary PTSA President, “and we hope to reach our goal of $45,000! The entire school gets involved and it has such a positive impact on the students!”
A hefty goal isn’t stopping Snoqualmie Elementary from making this year’s fundraiser the best ever. “We would love to ask businesses in our community to donate to the Walk-A-Thon,” Reul-Shapiro said. “The kids are motivated to raise money, but we welcome prize donations. We welcome anything to help make this Walk-A-Thon a success and to help us raise money to enhance the classroom experience for all students at SES! And local companies, such as Microsoft, have matching gift programs, so we encourage families to look into that also.”
The money raised from the Walk-A-Thon is used over the entire school year for various programs, such as classroom experiences, teacher grants, an entire year of art programming for grades first through fifth, as well as parent education classes and family fun nights.
In the past, the PTSA has been able to provide grants to every teacher at the school. “This is an example of how money raised is positively impacting our classrooms and every child at SES,” said Cindy Conlon, PTSA Vice President of Fundraising. “From past Walk-A-Thon’s, we were able to purchase reading programs that are in line with new Common Core State Standards.
We hope we can continue to provide funds like this for our amazing teachers and students!”
