The body of Dr. Mitch Hungate, a long-time Renton dentist, was found by searchers on Granite Mountain on Snoqualmie Pass early Wednesday morning.
Hungate was killed when an avalanche swept him away on April 13. Poor weather conditions and high avalanche danger had prevented rescue teams from safely continuing the search.
His family and friends were at the King County Sheriff’s Office command post just off Interstate 90 when his body was found, about halfway down the avalanche, according to Sgt. Cindi West, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.
Hungate, who lives in the Lake Tapps area, had practiced in Renton for about 30 years .
