Stillwater Elementary student, Parker Jeanes, a second-grade student at Stillwater Elementary School, has earned an Award of Merit from the Washington State PTA Reflections contest, in the photography category.

She had not one, but three original entries at the local and regional levels. Her photo “Wishing Stones” received the state-level Award of Merit. Jeanes was invited to the Washington State PTA Awards Ceremony on May 6th at the Sea Tac Double Tree Hotel’s Grand Ballroom to receive her award.

She found her “wishing stones” at her grandparents’ vacation home on Waldron Island.

“When I visit my grandparents we love to explore at the beach… the blue stones with the white line through them are called wishing stones, and they are always so pretty, so I used them to create a connected heart shape, and then took a picture of it,” she explained.

Each stone is unique, she said, but when you put them all together, they become something beautiful. “It is just like all different kinds of people coming together, even though they are different they are special, and together they create something really nice.”
