Budget challenge pushes Snoqualmie Valley school board meeting back one week

The July 14 meeting of the Snoqualmie Valley School Board has been rescheduled for July 21, to give administrative staff more time to set budget expenditures for the 2011-12 school year.

Director of Business Services Ryan Stokes told the board June 23 that the full implications of the state legislature’s financial cuts to education haven’t been completely calculated. Expenditures can’t be finalized until the district has confirmed how much state revenue the district will receive.

Superintendent Joel Aune asked the board for the delay, saying “In terms of our work plan, I think we’ll be better positioned to give you the details, on the expenditure side especially, if we get that extra week.”

Board members agreed to reschedule the meeting to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at the district office. They also set a work session for  6 p.m. Monday, July 27, at the district office.

Stokes said the district is required to notify the public two weeks in advance of its vote on the budget. He anticipated the board would receive the final budget for approval August 18.
