Gottman workshop to build strong parents comes to North Bend’s Encompass

Encompass of North Bend hosts “Bringing Baby Home,” a workshop for new and expectant parents, on Saturdays, July 9 and July 16.

The workshop is hosted by Gottman Relationship Institute, and aims to improve the quality of life for babies and children by strengthening their families.

“When a baby arrives, parents must undertake the enormous task of caring round-the-clock for a new, vulnerable infant,” says Nela Cumming, director of Pediatric Therapy Programs for Encompass, one of two Gottman-certified educators who will co-teach the workshops. “Up to 70 percent of couples experience stress, conflict and a decline in marital satisfaction during this time – all of which affect baby’s care.

“This workshop recognizes the importance of supporting parents during this profound transition. It has proven results in helping couples maintain strong, happy relationships.”

Eligible couples must be expecting a baby or have a child under 1 year old. Both parents must participate. Space is limited, so early registration is advised.

Tuition is $150 per couple, including workbooks and other materials. No childcare will be available, but infants under 1 year old can attend with their parents.

A generous donor has provided funding for scholarships so that three couples can attend the workshop cost-free.
The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Encompass Main Campus, 1407 Boalch Ave. N.W., in North Bend.
