Twin Falls Middle School Key Club members were honored last week for their work to send 100 blankets to injured U.S. soldiers. Representatives from the VFW and the Seattle Seahawks, who also participated in the blanket drive last year, attended the March 30 ceremony for the 10 students.

The blankets were sent to injured soldiers recuperating in Iraq and Germany.

At Wednesday’s assembly, the VFW presented the school with a plaque, showing photos of various soldiers using the students’ donated blankets.

Wendy Spear, a VFW member and mother of one of the students, said the project started with her learning from the VFW that injured soldiers needed more blankets. Through her work at Zetec, Inc. in Snoqualmie, the Seattle Seahawks also got involved and donated 50 blankets. Students sold snow-cones for a month to raise money for the project, too.
