Published 11:12 am Thursday, April 7, 2011

Riverview School District is hosting its first Strengthening Families series of workshops starting April 11. The workshops, intended for children ages 10 to 14 and their parents, focus on ways that parents can help their children deal with stress, peer pressure, and the new set of challenges they face in middle school. It will also focus on ways parents and kids can strengthen their relationships.

This series can help parents set rules and consequences for their children, to help them make better choices.

Parents and students attend the sessions together. The groups meet separately for an hour, then all together for an hour. The workshop includes dinner.

The seven-week series is free, but limited to 15 families.

Classes are Mondays, April 11 to May 23, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Carnation Elementary School, 4950 Tolt Avenue, Carnation.
