The Cascade League is as strong as ever, and most track and field teams are seeing increasing numbers for the 2011 season.

The Red Wolves will be right up there with them, reloading a number of veterans athletes

Top girls taking the field this year include senior distance runners Cara Strodel and Brenna Eldredge, senior sprinter Tenaya Davis, senior hurler Muriah Carlson, and junior javelineer Hanna Gibson.

Top boys include junior sprinter Austin Koons, senior mid-distance runner Josh Denison, junior distance runner Mitchell Montgomery and senior distance runner Chad Linnerooth.

The Red Wolves boys went fourth in their conference and 11th at districts in 2010, while the girls went seventh in league and 14th at districts.

Head coaches Bruce McDowell and Lisa Woodard together have 32 years with the program.

Team goals and expectations include pushing for half of the team to qualify for conference championships. The coaches would also like to see at least three individuals qualify for state.

A number of past athletes have gone on to compete at college level. Kenny Bates is throwing javelin and Hernan Farias is running hurdles at Everett Community College. Missy Dowd is a distance runner at Lipscomb University.

Assistant Dean Vergillo is in his third year with the Red Wolves; Michael Miyoshi returns for his second year as an assistant.

The team can be followed at their team site.
