Wildcats headed to district meet

Six Mount Si girls track team members qualified for a trip to the Sea-King track tournament to be held this week at Rainier Beach High School.

The top four placers in each event at the Sea-King meet will advance to state.

Shannon Posey will be competing in the javelin and discus after taking second place in both events at the league meet. Posey had a throw of 106 feet, 7 inches in the discus at the rain-soaked, lightning-delayed league meet at Eastlake High School. Teammate Ashley Wright took fifth and earned a spot to the Sea-King meet with a throw of 91 feet, 9 inches.

Posey threw the javelin 127 feet, 1 inch, missing the top spot by seven inches but still earning a place in the event at the Sea-King meet.

Kali Roestel had a strong showing in the long jump. She flew a distance of 15 feet, 8 inches to place-fifth and earn a trip to the Sea-King meet. Symone Shaw just missed qualifying in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 1 inch, good enough for seventh place.

Nicole Remish earned a trip to the Sea-King meet after placing fourth in the finals of the 200 meter in a time of 27.42 seconds. She also placed fourth in the 400 meter with a time of 1:00.94 to earn a spot in that event.

Jessie Oliver had a spectacular performance in the 300-meter hurdles, winning the event with a time of 47.72 seconds. The win earns her a spot at this weeks Sea-King meet.

Finally, the team of Remish, Oliver, Rostel and Shaw earned spots in the 4×200-meter relay after placing third with a time of 1:49.7.

Other outstanding performance were put forth by Tove Garhart, who just missed qualifying in the pole vault with a height of nine feet, six inches for seventh place. Teammate Ellie Allen ran a personal best of 5:22.7 in the 1,600 meter to place sixth in the preliminary heat.

The Sea-King meet begins Wednesday, May 25, at the Southwest Athletic Complex near Chief Sealth High School in Seattle. Start time for the first event is 3 p.m.
