Wildcat tennis gives its best against the best

Mount Si’s girls’ tennis season came to an end in the Kingco Tournament last week at Skyline, but it wasn’t without a fight. The Wildcats sent one representative each in both singles and doubles and there were mixed results.

In singles, Mount Si was represented by its top player, junior Erika Strine. She opened play May 5 with a match against one of Liberty’s top singles threats, Kailie Badyal. It was a slow start for Strine, as she fought off nerves in the first set. Once she got comfortable on the court, though, the match gradually turned in the Wildcat player’s favor. Strine closed the match out with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory.

Badyal dominated the first set, then Strine took over. She took an early lead in set two, then Badyal responded to make it close. Mount Si’s best then went to work to slam the door on Badyal and win the second set. A break followed that set, which consisted of a snack and a pep talk from Wildcat coach Sue Gallacher. The renewed energy from that break was useful, as the Mount Si player routed the Patriot in the third and deciding set.
