Wildcats trounce Newport
Mount Si posted another victory in wrestling recently, downing Newport 39-20. At 119 pounds, Newport’s Zac Raasch defeated Kyle Heath of Mount Si 13-5. At 125 pounds, Joe Taklo defeated Newport’s Robin Sohn by pin at the 4:45 mark in the match. At 130 pounds, the Wildcats’ Jacob Lund defeated Andrew Longhorn by pin at the 1:00 mark. At 135 pounds, the Knights’ Steven Erickson defeated Stuart Hallock 10-3.
At 140 pounds, Jordan Sypher pinned the Knights’ Elliot Yee with three seconds left in the match. At 145 pounds, the Knights’ Scoitt Cairns pinned Jay Dochnahl at the 3:23 mark. Kenny Morrison posted a pin of Newport’s Bob Swann at 152 pounds at the 1:49 mark.
At 160 pounds, Mac Donnell won a close match for Mount Si with a 13-10 decision over Taylor Sole. At 171 pounds, the Knights’ Andy Sandhu defeated Dereck Hannaman by decision, 16-4.
Seth Merrit won by pin, 55 seconds into the match against the Knights’ Steve Oh at 189 pounds. At 215 pounds, Dex Moetului won by forfeit. At 275 pounds, Jeff Chapman fell to the Knights’ Doug Hollenbeck 12-6. At 103 pounds, both teams forfeited. At 112 pounds, the Wildcats’ Ryan Makala defeated Newports’ Ana Mackart by pin at the 1:49 mark.
Mount Si wins
The Mount Si wrestling team took first place at the Skyline Invitational recently to extend their winning streak to seven wins, no losses. Individual match results were unavailable at press time.
Gymnastics team beats Liberty
The Mount Si gymnastics team racked up their second win in as many weeks with a 142.70 to 138.90 win over Liberty last week. Brittany Cragin led the effort for Mount Si coming in second overall with an all-around score of 29.40. Alisha Fischer followed closely third in all-around with a score of 29.30. Teammate Sarah Lewis took fourth in all-around with a score of 29.20 and Erika Jensen took fifth in all-around with a score of 27.00.
In the vault, Cragin again led with a score of 8.10, followed by Jill Buck who scored a 7.80, Lewis with a 7.80 and Fischer with a 7.60. McKinna Little took eighth with a score of 7.50, Jensen took ninth with a score of 7.40, Jessi Zavar took 12th with a score of 6.60 and Tiera Welsh took 13th with a score of 6.50.
On the beam, Fischer took second with a score of 8.00, a personal best. She was followed by Cragin who took fourth with a 7.20, Lewis who took fifth with a 7.20, Jensen who took sixth with a 6.90, Tiffany Kinsman took seventh with a score of 6.80, Stephanie King took ninth with a score of 6.30, Natalie Reynolds took 11th with a score of 6.10, Cassie Irwin took 14th with a score of 5.70, Welsh took 18th with a score of 5.00 and Caht Hayes took 19th with a score of 4.70.
On the bars, Lewis led for Mount Si with a third-place finish and score of 6.80. Jensen took fourth with a 6.30, Cragin took fifth with a score of 6.20, Fischer took sixth with a score of 6.10, Little took ninth with a score of 5.20, Buck took 10th with a score of 5.10, King took 12th with a score of 4.60, Julie Carroll took 13th with a score of 4.10, Ayana Hara took 15th with a score of 3.80 and Irwin took 16th with a score of 3.80.
Finally for the floor, Cragin took second with a score of 7.980, followed by Buck who took third with a score of 7.60. Fischer took fourth with a score of 7.60, Lewis took fifth with a score of 6.90, Carroll took seventh with a score of 6.70, Jensen took ninth with a score of 6.40, Kinsman took 10th with a score of 5.80, Little took 11th with a score of 5.80, Zavar took 13th with a score of 5.70 and Pauline Monet took 15th with a score of 5.50.
