Voters will decide fate of Si View

NORTH BEND – Trust is a hard quality to earn, especially when it comes to the election season.

Gaining voter trust is one of the biggest hurdles facing the grassroots effort to garner voter support for approval of a tax increase that would fund the reopening and operation of the 65-year-old Si View Community Center and pool.

The issue

On Feb. 4, North Bend voters residing within Fire District 38’s boundary will decide whether to approve the formation of the Metropolitan Park District. If approved, the measure would allow the district’s five elected commissioners the authority to establish levy rates – expected to be 28 cents per $1,000 of assessed evaluation – without voter approval. Those funds, about $400,000, would be used to reopen and operate the Si View facility.
