SNOQUALMIE VALLEY – Erica Cain, a 15-year-old from Fall City and a sophomore at Mount Si High School, was killed in a crash on Interstate 90 about 10 miles east of Ellensburg on Sunday, Sept. 8, authorities said.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Cain, who was with her mother, Debra, 44, was driving the family’s 1989 BMW when it left the left side of the road and rolled at 12:50 p.m.
The State Patrol said Cain was killed instantly. Her mother was taken to Kittitas Valley Hospital and later released.
Both of them were wearing seatbelts, and investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the accident.
The two were apparently coming home from a concert at the Gorge Amphitheater, which is outside of George. The Dave Matthews Band performed the previous night at the amphitheater.
On Friday, Sept. 6 a Seattle woman, Mary Lee Tarjan, 58, succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident on State Route 203 Sept. 1.
Tarjan’s 1986 Chrysler was hit by a 1997 Chevrolet pickup containing Ryan Bauer, 25, Heather Cyrus, 22, and Jeremy Dickey, 28, at 12:24 p.m. They were not injured.
According to the State Patrol, Tarjan, was heading northbound on State Route 203 between Carnation and Duvall. The pickup was behind her, driven by Bauer.
When Tarjan attempted to make a left turn, Bauer apparently went into the oncoming lane to get around Tarjan, the State Patrol said. The pickup hit the driver’s side of Tarjan’s car.
State Trooper Monica Hunter said no charges have been filed and the accident is still under investigation.
