UPPER VALLEY – The nation’s top official charged with protecting the environment said she supports the Evergreen Forest Trust’s proposed $185 million purchase of the Snoqualmie Tree Farm during a visit last week to the Weyerhaeuser Co.-owned land.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Christie Whitman’s stop at the tree farm was part of a tour of the Pacific Northwest that took her to Idaho and Alaska before coming to Washington.
On hand to meet her were representatives from forestry, salmon conservation and environmental groups, including the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission, the state Salmon Recovery Funding Board and the Washington Forest Protection Association.
