Traffic circle could be stop sign for Fall City businesses

FALL CITY – Fall City residents and the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) are stuck at a crossroads concerning traffic.

WSDOT engineers told the Fall City Community Association (FCCA) at its Friday, Sept. 27, meeting that it is still devising ways to curb the traffic problems caused by the intersection of State Route 202 and Preston-Fall City Road.

Both sides agree a traffic circle at the intersection would help out, but WSDOT engineers said they might not be able to build one due to business concerns about loss of parking and access.

The news was frustrating to a community that has nagged the state to ease the traffic that backs up at the intersection. In 1995, WSDOT initially came to the city with a plan to put a stoplight at the intersection of State Route 202 and State Route 203, on the other side of the Snoqualmie River Bridge.

After public comment and further review, however, the planned stoplight was moved to the intersection of State Route 202 and Preston-Fall City Road, on the Fall City side of the bridge.
