The week in sports

Golf team still undefeated

Last week, the Mount Si Golf Team continued its reign of terror

by sending the Sammamish Totems home with their heads hanging after a

resounding 178 – 222 defeat.

Sophomore, Brett Fallows, recorded his first medalist honor of

his varsity career by shooting four birdies on his way to a final score of a

2-under par 34. Contributing to the 44-point margin, Sean Fallows,

Derek Lee, Sean Armstrong and Brandon Proudfoot all shot even par at 36.

Eric Larson and Jay-Michael Johnson both shot 37.

The Wildcats’ next opponent was Interlake, on Thursday, at the

Tam O’Shanter Golf Course. They defeated the Saints, notching their fifth

straight win.

The team beat the Saints by a score of 190 to 197. Providing further

evidence of the depth of this team, Sean Armstrong recorded his first

medalist honor of the season and became the fourth individual Wildcat to take

top spot. Armstrong’s winning score was a 1-over par 37. Following

Cedarcrest “C” squad drops game to Sammamish

The Red Wolves football team played their first home game

at Howard Miller Field against Sammamish, but the

experience wasn’t what the team had hoped for, losing 36-7.

The Totems drew first blood by scoring their first touchdown two

plays into the game. They scored again early in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, Jesse Pettersen bobbled the ball, picked

it up, then ran from the 30-yard line through the middle of the field all

the way to the end zone. Paul Diediker kicked the extra point, making

the score 7-14.

But that would be all the Red Wolves would score offensively, as

the rest of the game was dominated by Sammamish. There were a

few Cedarcrest highlights, though. Adam DeJarnett made a great sack of

the Sammamish quarterback. After halftime, Cedarcrest took the ball after

the kickoff and drove from their 36-yard line to the Sammamish 16, much of

it on the shoulders of Pettersen. The drive was stopped when the

Totems recovered a Cedarcrest fumble.

Jared McKie made a great tackle when the Totems punt returner

failed to call for a fair catch. Offensively, Pettersen had a nice 20-yard run

and Eli Hotchkiss had a nice pass reception.

The point after was good, making the score 7-0. Issaquah came back and

scored in the second, but the point after was blocked, making the score 7-6 at

halftime.

Issaquah would be the first to score in the second half with 10:27 left

in the third. Their two-point attempt failed though, making the score 7-12.

Struggling in the air, the Red Wolves went to their ground game

and called on Darred Carrido, who ran a brilliant 35-yard rush to put the

team deep in Issaquah territory. Aaron O’Neal got the call from 9 yards

out to score, then the team added a two-point conversion to make it 15-12.
