Somers leads ‘Cats
Mount Si High School veteran golfer Katie Somers led the Wildcat girls’ golf team in a jamboree last week at Mount Si Golf Course against Cedarcrest and Newport High Schools.
Somers shot a medalist effort of 36, followed by teammate Jen Sanford’s 45. Other scores for Mount Si were Gaby Rader with a 59, Maggie Robinson with a 51 and Julia Dorn with a 70.
Wildcats open new era with loss
The Mount Si High School baseball team opened the Chaz Carr era on a down note last Wednesday night, March 12.
Despite a solid outing on the mound by Justin Poth, the Wildcats could not overcome offensive and defensive struggles, as they fell 4-0 to Bellarmine Prep to open the season in Tacoma.
Poth threw four shutout innings and gave up only two hits, but Mount Si made three defensive errors that proved costly, as Bellarmine scored all of the runs thanks to those miscues. In addition, the offense was unable to get much going in the contest.
Wildcat tennis falls to Bothell
The Mount Si High School girls tennis team opened their season with a loss to Bothell last Wednesday, March 11.
The match, originally scheduled for Bothell on Tuesday, March 10, was pushed back a day, then lack of bus transportation for the Wildcats to Bothell High School forced a change in the site for the contest to Mount Si. That meant both varsity and JV matches involving the two teams were held together. This resulted in the varsity matches being played by rules of a “pro-set”, meaning one set to eight points as opposed to the normal best-of-three sets.
Bothell won eight out of nine of these pro-sets. Mount Si’s only victory came when Victoria Falcon and Georgia Reynolds fought hard for an 8-5 win over Bothell’s Emily Hinman and Devin Porter.
The other two doubles matches were close defeats for Mount Si and Wildcat Allie Van Bryce gave the best singles effort of the day, as she took Isabelle Nguyen down to the wire before falling 7-9 to the Cougar competitor. Linnea Olson also had a solid effort in singles, but fell 5-8 to Bothell’s Estee Kastes.
