Baseball

Bellevue pulls out late-inning win

John Coombs of Bellevue had the game-winning RBI-single that scored the lone Bellevue run to give the Wolverines a 1-0 win over the Mount Si varsity baseball team last week. Both teams had runners in scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings and Mount Si’s Alex Smart threw out the potential game-winning run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh. Adam Dentz pitched a complete game giving up five hits, one earned run and one walk.


‘Cats defeat Totems

The Mount Si Wildcat varsity baseball team defeated Sammamish recently, 11-9. Alex Smart had the game-tying base hit to score Craig Weber in the seventh inning. Tyler Starkel had the game winning hit, a two-run home run with Adam Sentz on first base in the seventh inning and two outs looming.


Softball

Bellevue blanks ‘Cats

The Mount Si varsity softball team dropped a game to Bellevue last week 1-0. The winning run was scored in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs. Kandis Clesson pitched a complete game giving up three hits, one earned run, four walks and 11 strike outs.


‘Cats thump Interlake

With Sophie Hart pitching and only giving up four hits, the Mount Si JV softball team walked away with a 21-2 victory over Interlake last week. Brianna Campbell and Samantha Riley sparked an early big lead with a double and a three run homer in the first inning. Ten different girls scored runs with the team committing only a single error in the game.


‘JV pulls out win

The Mount Si JV softball team jumped out to an early 7-2 lead and held on to win 14-7 over Bellevue last week. The ‘Cats pounded out 14 hits led by doubles from Samantha Riley and Amy Ferree, and a triple from Camille Weber. Faith Hutcherson picked up her first hit of the year and Ferree had her first three-hit game. Lynnae McKiernan picked up her second win allowing just five hits.


JV loses first game

The Mount Si JV softball team lost its first game of the season to Skyline last week 16-3. The ‘Cats scored two in the first three innings but found themselves down 5-2. The Spartans erupted for seven base hits in the fourth and took a 12-2 lead, but Mount Si fought back and scored a run off of Camille Weber’s second base hit of the game.

Excellent defensive play by Kali Waker in left field and Samantha Riley at shortstop held off the Spartans. Amy Ferree, in her first game at third base, threw for five outs defensively and offensively Weber had three hits.


Soccer

Mount Si shuts out Liberty

Dan Barnes scored the lone goal of the game in the third minute off a corner kick by Yosef Yetneberk to give Mount Si a 1-0 win against Liberty in varsity soccer action last week.


‘Cats lose to Interlake

Mount Si varsity soccer encountered its first loss of the season last week falling to Interlake at Interlake, 2-1. Interlake scored both its goals near the beginning of the contest with Mount Si attempting a comeback with 15 minutes left in the game. Evan Lloyd scored the lone goal on a beautiful play from Nick Swanson.


Track and Field

‘Cats fall to Bellevue

The Mount Si boys’ track team traveled to Bellevue recently losing 80-57.

Despite the loss, Mount Si dominated the field events. Michael Keller had two first-place finishes, winning the javelin with a toss of 147 feet, 1 inch, and the discus with a throw of 114 feet, 11 inches. Second- and third-place finishes in the javelin also went to Wildcat throws by Brian Maul and Rollin Smith.

Erik Tierney and Maul went one and two in the shot put with Tierney throwing 40 feet, four inches. Steven Johnson won the pole vault clearing 11 feet, and Keith Keller was the only high jumper to compete and cleared 5 feet to win the event.

The ‘Cats came away with a clean sweep in the triple jump with Adam Rothgeb taking first with a distance of 37 feet, 1 1/2 inches, and Kyle Meuli takingsecond with a distance of 36 feet, 11 inches. Meuil also took first in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 1 inch.

In the running events, Rothgeb set a personal record in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.9 seconds. Distance runner Brad Allen faced a torrential down pour for eight laps to win the 3,200 meters in a time of 11 minutes, 7 seconds. Smith stepped into the 200-meter dash at the last minute scoring third.


Boys’ track has great outing

The Mount Si boys’ track team had an excellent outing at Skyline last week with several great individual performances. Alex Grazda threw the javelin an incredible 173 feet, 10 inches, 14 feet more than his personal record set last season. He also had a personal record in the high jump clearing six feet, one inch.

Adam Rothgeb won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 42.3 seconds, and Kyle Meuli soared a first-place finish in the triple jump going 37 feet, 10 inches. Joe Taklo improved his time in the mile to 5 minutes, 2 seconds for a third-place finish. Conrad Haustveit showed his great running form to win the 400 meter in a time of 55.8 seconds, and Kyle Myers’ shot-put throw set a new personal record of 38 feet, 9 inches.


Girls’ track team comes out on top

The Mount Si girls’ track team competed at the Liberty Invitational track meet last weekend and came out on top, outscoring seven other teams with a total of 141.5 points.

Shannon Posey, Caitlin Braun, Meaghan Dunklee and the 4×200 relay team of Nicole Remish, Krisi Lund, Jordan Tipton and Monica Nelson all finished first in their events.

Posey threw the javelin 122 feet, 6 inches, for a new personal record. She also had personal records of 101 feet, 7 inches, in the discus and 31 feet, 5 inches, in the shot to place second and third respectively. Braun won the discus with a throw of 110 feet, 4 inches, and placed second in the shot with a throw of 34 feet, 4 inches.

Dunklee won the pole vault topping 7 feet, 6 inches and ran the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 18.1 to place fourth.

Remish placed second in the 100 and Lund placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 50.9 seconds.

The 4×100 relay team of Remish, Lund, Tipton and Nelson ran a season’s best time of 52.9 seconds to place second. Collette Hatch ran a personal record of 1:07.1 to place fourth in the 400, and Devan Paulus placed third in the 3,200 as well as second in the pole vault with a leap of 7 feet, 6 inches.

Nelson placed third in the triple jump with a personal record of 30 feet, 7 inches, and Vanessa Scalzo placed fifth in the 800 with a personal best time of 2:42.6.

Ariane Barr also ran a person best time of 6:15 to place sixth in the 1,600. The Wildcats recorded 12 personal bests throughout the event.


Boys team comes in second

The Mount Si boys track team combined for 125 team points to come in second behind Kennedy at last weekend’s Liberty Invitational.

Justice Manson set the tone running his fastest 100-meter dash of the season in 11.7 seconds, good enough for second place.

Adam Rothgeb followed up in the 110-high-hurdles running a personal record of 16 seconds flat. Rothgeb also ran a personal best in the 300-meter hurdles, recording a time of 41.5 seconds.

Alex Grazda came home with two first-place medals, one for clearing the high jump at 6 feet, 2 inches, and the other in the javelin with a throw of 159 feet, 7 inches. Brady Barry clocked a time of 24.2 seconds in the 200-meter for a fourth place finish. Manson, Barry, Rothgeb and Bradfrd Wilbert teamed up for the 4 x 100 relay, earning a second place finish.

Pole vaulters Steven Johnson and Zach Sumner dominated the field, taking the top two spots, clearing 11 feet, 6 inches, and 11 feet respectively.

Erik Tierney had a throw of 41 feet, 3 inches, in the shot. Teammate Michael Keller set a personal record in the 110-high hurdles, placed fifth in the discus and ran a leg on the 4 x 400 meter relay with Stefan Marth, Steven Johnson and Conrad Haustveit. In the 800 meters, Joe Taklo set a furious pace and dropped six seconds off
