JV boys defeat Issaquah
The Mount Si JV boys’ basketball team pushed their season record to 2-0 last week with a 63-43 drubbing of Issaquah. Remo Castagno led the scoring with 14 points followed by Nick Johnston with 13, Caleb Willimas with 10 and Nick Dietsch with eight. Sean Bothell contributed eight rebounds while Williams and Castagno each had five. Josh Lindor also added four rebounds.
Boys win another
Behind 14 points from Remo Castagno, the Mount Si boys’ JV basketball team moved to a season record of 3-0 as they defeated Liberty, 69-48. Tommy Abbott added 13 points and Greg Beckmann had 10.
Girls defeat Kangaroos
Behind the eight rebounds of Corrin Kruse, the Mount Si girls’ JV basketball team defeated Lake Washington last week 37-27. Kathryn McFarland knocked down some clutch 3-point field goals to ice the game.
Freshman Kylie Schoenbecker led the way in scoring with 13, and Monica Nelson had six steals.
‘Cats fall to Patriots
The Mount Si girls’ JV basketball team lost a close game last week to the visiting Liberty Patriots 44-37. Leading the way for Mount Si was freshman Kylie Schoenbechler with 11 points and four assists. Monica Nelson had six steals and seven points.
“C” girls defeat Patriots
The Mount Si ‘C’ girls’ basketball team defeated Liberty last week 43-23. In a total team effort, Hannah Hames led the scoring with 14 points, followed by Symone Shaw with 12 and Alisha Larian with 11 points.
‘Cats bounce White River
The Mount Si girls’ ‘C’ basketball team continued their winning streak with a 40-15 drubbing of White River last week. Seven players scored with Alisha Larion leading the effort with 20 points and some tough inside defense by Kelsey Tarp.
Mount Si takes second
Hosting their annual David Szczepanik Takedown Tournament, the hometown Mount Si Wildcats took second behind Hazen High School. At 103 pounds, Kyle Heath took first with 72 total points. Jacob Lund took fourth at 112 pounds with 22 total points. Mike Montgomery took second at 125 pounds while teammate Joe Taklo took first, also at 125 pounds. At 130 pounds, Dan Wright took fifth and at 135 pounds, Jordan Sypher took third. Jay Dochnahl took seventh at 140 pounds while his brother Zach also took seventh at 145 pounds. At 152 pounds, Tyler O’Brien took fifth and Mac Donnell took third at 160 pounds. Pano Dreves took third at 171 pounds and teammate Jack Stinnett took sixth at 189 pounds. Dex Moetului took first at 215 pounds and Hunter Woldseth took third at 275 pounds.
Wrestlers win tourney
Mount Si took first at last weekend’s Sammamish Invitational tournament with a score of 235 points, compared to second-place Edmonds-Woodway with 209.5. Kyle Heath, Joe Taklo, Mike Montgomery, Mac Donnell, Pano Dreves and Trevor Moore all won their weight classes. Dex Moetulvi took second place in his weight class.
Gymnastics team pulls out win
The Mount Si gymnastics team pulled out their first win of the season last week with a 137.55 to 122.15 win over Sammamish.
In the vault, Mount Si took the top four spots. Katie Osiadacz took first with a score of 7.90 followed by Casey Stinett, Alisha Fischer and Erika Jensen who all scored 7.60. Teammate Sarah Lewis scored a 7.5 and tied with Jill Buck and Samantha Baldwin.
On the bars, Stinett took second with a score of 6.350, with Osiadacz taking fourth with a score of 5.90. Fischer scored a 5.8 for fifth place and Jensen scored a 5.60 to tie with teammate Sarah Lewis for sixth place. Buck scored a 5.50 for eighth place and Tiera Welsh scored a 5.20 for ninth place. Holly Borroff scored a 4.8 for tenth and Baldwin scored a 4.2 for 12th.
On the beam, Baldwin took top honors with a score of 7.50 followed by Stinnett who scored a 6.90. Fischer took fourth with a 6.60, tying Lewis and Jensen. Osiadacz took ninth with a 5.80 and Welsh took 12th with a 5.0. Finally, Courtney Rambo took 18th with a 2.50.
Osiadacz took first on the floor with a score of 8.1, followed by Fischer who took third with a score of 7.20. Lewis took fourth with a score of 7.00 followed by Stinnett with a score of 6.90. Jensen took sixth with a score of 6.70, Baldwin took ninth with a score of 6.30, Borroff took tenth, tied with teammate Rambo with scores of 6.20.
Stinnett took second overall, followed by Osiadacz, Fischer, Lewis, Jensen and Baldwin, who took third through seventh, respectively. Buck took 15th overall, Borroff, 16th, Welsh 20th and Rambo 21st.
Drill team showing their stuff
The Mount Si Wildcat drill team took first place at last weekend’s Cedarcrest competition. Cassie Adkins took fourth in the novice division and Ashley Robey placed ninth in the advanced division. The team’s next competition is at Sammamish High School on Jan. 22 at 1 p.m., but they will be performing their winning routine this Friday at the basketball game during half time.
