Softball
‘Cats fall to Totems
The Mount Si JV softball team had a weird and wild game last week as they took the lead early, found themselves down in the middle innings 8-6 only to win 14-12. The ‘Cats responded against an improved Sammamish team even though they were down 11-12 going into the seventh inning. A loud and inspired bench rallied the girls as they scored three in the top of the seventh to take the lead and the win, 14-12. Lynnae McKiernan picked up the victory as she pitched well in relief and Amy Ferree had an excellent day at the plate with a single, a double and a triple.
Sophie Hart, Briana Campbell and McKiernan scored in the seventh to seal the victory. The win improved the Wildcat’ record to 6 – 4.
Mount Si blasts Bellevue
In a game delayed by nasty rain showers, the Mount Si JV softball team came out hungry against Bellevue and had some fun taking a 14-2 victory against the visiting Wolverines. Nine different players scored runs as the girls pounded out 13 hits. Briana Campbell led the parade with three singles, and Amy Ferree blasted a double and a triple scoring three runners. Amy Ayers had a nifty throw to home on a relay from Faith Hutcherson for a late inning out, and Camille Weber had an excellent game behind the plate. Sophie Hart pitched a super game allowing only four hits as she picked up her third win. It was a great team effort as they improved to seven wins and four losses.
‘Cats fall to Skyline
Against undefeated Skyline, the Mount Si JV softball team played one of their best games of the season, even if the result ended in a 5-7 loss. The ‘Cats came out aggressive, as Alicia Elmore laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt in the first, advancing Faith Hutcherson, who led the game off with a single to second. Camille Weber hit a rocket to third, which resulted in an error. Sophie Hart laced a nice single to center, scoring Elmore. Briana Campbell’s triple cleared the bases giving the Cats a 3-0 early lead, as Weber and Hart scored.
Skyline countered by scoring four with four singles in the first, sandwiched around a Wildcat error. Another run in the second made it a 3-5 score, but the ‘Cats came back scoring a run in the fourth as Amy Ferree’s single brought home Campbell who had a base hit earlier in the inning and advanced on Amy Ayer’s infield out.
Brittni Mortensen led off the fifth with a single, advanced on Hutcherson’s grounder and eventually scored on Lynnae McKiernan’s hard shot up the middle narrowing the score to 5-6. Kali Walker led off the seventh with a grounder that was miscued. Elise Vikari advanced her to second with an infield shot, and Missy Bean’s walk led to runners on first and second with one out. The young ‘Cats could muster no more hits and ended up on the short end of the score.
Hart ended up pitching a seven-hit game against the potent Spartans, with Mount Si playing some great defense considering they had lost in an earlier season contest to Skyline by a score of 3 to 16. It was a wonderful indicator of the improvement this young team has made. Campbell had a fine game at the plate with a single, a double and a triple, and Ferree added two singles.
