PLU honors Mount Si grad

Dan Haakenson, a 2000 graduate of Mount Si and member of the 2004 Pacific Lutheran University track and field team, has been named to the U.S. Track Coaches Association All-Academic Division III Outdoor Track and Field teams.

To be nominated, the student/athlete must have completed at least two semesters/three quarters at the certifying institution, must have at least a 3.25 overall cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and the student/athlete must have either met an NCAA provisional or automatic standard or participated in the NCAA Track and Field Championships for that season.


Turner-Sales pushes Lutes

2001 Mount Si graduate Stephanie Turner-Sales continues to push the Lutes to wins. With a three game victory over Whitman the Lutes have won 11 straight matches.

Recently they defeated Whitman with Turner-Sales recording 15 kills. Then they traveled to Spokane to take on Whitworth whom they defeated in four games to record their twelth consecutive win. Turner-Sales had 23 kills, four aces, four block assists and eight digs in the match.


Turner-Sales takes Lutes to tourney

TACOMA – The Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team headed to Hayward, Calif. last week for the NCAA Division III national playoffs with 2001 Mount Si graduate Stephanie Turner-Sales a key part of the team. The Lutes were one of six teams selected for the Cal State-Hayward Regional, played last week. The Lutes were seeded No. 3 in the region.

The Lutes returned to the postseason for the first time since 1999. The Lutes entered the playoffs with a 16-6 overall record. PLU earned the Northwest Conference’s automatic berth to the postseason by winning the conference title with a 15-1 mark.

Getting to the tourney came with a big win over Lewis and Clark recently. Turner-Sales contributed 13 kills in that match. PLU also took on Pacific prior to Lewis and Clark. Turner-Sales also had a great game adding 15 kills.


Turner-Sales named to all-conference team

Stephanie Turner-Sales, a junior at Pacific Lutheran University, was selected as a first-team player for the 2004 Northwest Conference All-Conference Volleyball Team. Turner is the team leader in kills, with 280, and service aces, with 41. She also has 82 digs and 28 total blocks. She was a second team all-conference pick last season and an honorable mention selection in 2002. Turner is a Mount Si High School graduate and a Snoqualmie resident.


Lutes season comes to an end

The Pacific Lutheran University volleyball team easily defeated Mount Ida College (Mass.), 30-10, 30-15, 30-11, in the first round of the NCAA Division III West Regional Tournament, but then fell to La Verne in a four-game loss. Against Mount Ida, Stephanie Turner-Sales had 10 service aces as well as a team-high six digs. In the loss to LaVerne Turner-Sales had 13 kills. The Lutes finish with a 17-7 overall record.
