Haakenson wins hammer

Dan Haakenson, a 2001 graduate of Mount Si High School and a senior at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU), won the hammer throw at a recent track meet for the Lutes. His mark was 169 feet, five inches. He also placed second in the discus with a throw of 138 feet and fourth in the shot with a distance of 41 feet, 10 inches.


Svarthumle hits a shot

In a pair of games with plenty riding on it for both teams, Pacific and Pacific Lutheran fought to a split of their Northwest Conference baseball doubleheader recently at Bond Field. Pacific won the first game 5-2.

The Boxers then watched a 7-0 lead evaporate in game two as the Lutes scored eight runs in the final two innings for an 8-7 victory. During the second game, Aaron Svarthumle, a senior from Fall City, opened the fifth inning with a solo home run, his fourth of the season.


Haakenson competes in decathlon

Dan Haakenson, a 2001 Mount Si graduate and senior at PLU, placed sixth in the decathlon on the first day of the Northwest Conference Multi-Event Championships held recently at PLU.


Reynolds places in meet

Georgia Reynolds, from North Bend, recently placed in the Pajama Classic gymnastics meet for Gymnastics East of Preston. Reynolds scored a 35.75 in all-around competition. She placed third in the vault with a score of 9.4 and sixth on the beam with a score of 9.0.


Haakenson excels at Championships

Pacific Lutheran University’s Dan Haakenson, a 2001 graduate of Mount Si High School, had a great showing at the Northwest Conference Track and Field Championships at Linfield College.

Haakenson earned all-conference honors during the first day of competition and won the hammer throw on the second day.

Haakenson recorded a conference best and season best mark of 177-1, more than three feet better than Nate Matlock of Willamette, who was the defending champion.
