Svarthumle tearing it up in his final college season

Mount Si graduate Aaron Svarthumle, a senior baseball player at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., is tearing it up in his final season of collegiate baseball.

The outfielder and third baseman, according to Pacific’s web site, is hitting .316, with two home runs and 21 RBIs. Last Friday, his triple, the only one he’s had thus far this season, keyed a six-run explosion in the bottom of the seventh inning in the second game of a doubleheader against Lewis and Clark College. The Boxers won both contests, 7-0 and 12-4.

Svarthumle has also made the difference in other games. One of the two home runs he’s hit thus far for Pacific came on March 13, and it tied the Boxers’ contest with Whitman, a game that ultimately was won by Pacific.

Mount Si baseball fans who want to see two Wildcat graduates in action can do that this weekend when Pacific and the University of Puget Sound (UPS) square off in a three-game series. Saturday, there is a doubleheader and a single game on Sunday. First pitch on both days is at noon at the UPS campus in Tacoma. Svarthumle will be facing former Mount Si teammate Bryce Kaestner, a junior who pitches for UPS. Kaestner, according to UPS’s web site, is currently 0-0 with a 3.65 ERA, mostly in relief.
