SVJSA schedules jamboree, bake sale
The Snoqualmie Valley Junior Soccer Association (SVJSA) will
hold its annual jamboree this Saturday, Sept. 11, at Torguson
Park. The first games are scheduled to start at 9:15 a.m. at the
Torguson Park complex behind Les Schwab in North Bend.
About 125 teams are expected to participate, representing
Snoqualmie, North Bend and Fall City.
All parents and coaches are requested to contribute bake sale
items. The suggested donations are:
U-7 through U-9: Baked goods; cookies (two per bag), cup
cakes, muffins, Rice Krispie treats, red licorice, “air
heads.” All baked goods should be individually wrapped.
U-10: A four-pack of Gatorade, or each team bring a case of
Gatorade.
U-11: A six-pack of water, or each team bring a case of water
U-12 and up: While the Under 12 and up players will not be
participating in the jamboree, they are invited to contribute
12-packs of soda to the proceedings.
Bake sale proceeds will help SVJSA and those children who
would otherwise not be able to play. All participation is greatly
appreciated. If you cannot deliver the goods yourself, please
give them to your coaches and they will be collected.
For more information on the bake sale, or if you are willing
to help, please call Stephanie at (425) 888-1523.
Mount Si grad is starter for Linfield soccer team
Amy Anderson, a junior at Linfield College in McMinnville,
Ore., and a 1997 graduate of Mount Si High, has been named as a
starting forward for the Wildcats’ women’s soccer team. She is
one of eight Washingtonians and 13 returning letter winners on
the NCAA Division III-level squad, which competes in the
Northwest Conference.
Described in the school’s press release as an
“established player,” Anderson is expected to play a
prominent roll in the team’s front line. Last year Linfield went
7-13, in the process setting a school record for season
victories.
“Our goal is to improve on last year,” said
fourth-year coach Steve Simmons. “Hopefully, that will
translate into a winning season.” Simmons added he feels the
Wildcats will be in a position to finish among the top four in
the conference.
Willamette (Salem, Ore.) and George Fox (Newberg, Ore.)
Universities are considered the front-runners for this year’s
Northwest Conference title. The other conference schools are
Pacific Lutheran University and Puget Sound, Tacoma; Whitman
College, Walla Walla; Whitworth College, Spokane; and Pacific,
Forest Grove, Ore.
