Dan Haakenson of Pacific Lutheran University’s track and field team led the list of performances recently by placing second in weight throw at the University of Washington Open No. 2. Haakenson is a 2001 graduate of Mount Si High School.
He placed second in the men’s 35-pound weight throw with a mark of 15.47 meters (50-9.25). Haakenson also placed 14th in the shot put, with a mark of 11.98 meters (39-7.75).
The next competition for the Lutes is Feb. 12 at the Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Washington.
Rainiers Baseball sets registration and tryouts
The Rainiers Baseball Club is accepting registrations and conducting tryouts for Babe Ruth Spring Baseball. Tryouts and registration will take place Saturday, Feb. 12, and Sunday Feb. 13 from 2-5 p.m. at the Si View Community Center. Eligible players must be ages 13-18. Teams will be formed at the 13-year-old prep, 13-15-year-old major, 16-year-old prep and 16-18-year-old senior. The season and practices begin in March and run through June with play-offs to the Babe Ruth World Series running through July. A player/parent meeting will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Si View Community Center’s Fireside Room.
