Red Wolves lose to Liberty, defeat Wildcats

Both Cedarcrest and Mount Si had their league soccer openers on

Tuesday, Sept. 14.

For the Red Wolves, the week provided an excellent opportunity to

get off to a strong start for second-year coach Kerrie Gould. Last year’s

team went 1-12 in KingCo 3A play, however – and despite the loss of

seniors Tiffany Biesidzinski and Holly Ellis – this year’s squad expects to move up.

Unfortunately, it didn’t happen that Tuesday night. Liberty

downed the Wolves by a score of 4-0, shelling Cedarcrest goal keepers Erica

Burch and Jenny Harder with a total of 29 shots. At the other end of the

field, Patriot goalie Jamie Corwin recorded seven saves.

The team’s prospects brightened last Thursday when it traveled up

Valley to meet arch-rival Mount Si and came away with a 2-0 victory.

Cassie Pepper and Heather Sherfey did the honors, scoring late in the second

period with assists by Libbye Haddon. The Wolves’ Burch and Harder

again split the time in the nets, while Mount Si’s Amber Schneider did the

entire game as the Wildcats’ goal keeper.

Armed with a 1-1 record, Cedarcrest returned to the field

this past Tuesday night for a game with the visiting squad from Overlake

High School. Tonight, Sept. 23, the Wolves travel to Skyline.

Wildcats down Saints, fall to Valley rivals

Last year Mount Si’s Bruce Caldwell directed his team to a

7-5-1 record, ultimately losing to Liberty 3-0 in the league playoffs.

This year, Caldwell’s soccer squad opened its season on a high note,

beating Interlake 2-0, but the Wildcats succumbed to Cedarcrest two nights

later. In the contest with the Saints, junior goal keeper Amber Schneider

notched the shutout, with Nicci Landeck and Lindsay Rafcliffe each scoring

one goal.

The Wildcats took on Sammamish this past Tuesday night, and host

Liberty this evening, Sept. 23.
