SNOQUALMIE – Weyerhaeuser Co. announced Tuesday, Oct. 22, that it will close its Snoqualmie finishing mill sometime in the first three months of 2003.
In addition to the Snoqualmie mill, which does planing and drying of wood, Weyerhaeuser will close its Enumclaw sawmill and sell 115,000 acres of land in Western Washington to Hancock Timber Resource Group.
Last November, Weyerhaeuser laid off 33 workers at its Western Lumber Finishing Mill in Snoqualmie and reduced production from three shifts to two. The mill currently employs about 115 people.
With the two mill closures in Snoqualmie and Enumclaw, the company will lay off a total of about 260 employees.
