Snoqualmie hikes taxes

The Snoqualmie City Council on Monday, Nov. 27 approved an ordinance levying general taxes at $3.6 million, said Bob Larson, city of Snoqualmie administrator. This amount includes a property tax increase of $205,652 from 2006. Taxes on new construction and improvements to property, along with increases due to increased property value added $177,000 in taxes collected. The ordinance also levies property taxes for the City of Snoqualmie on real and personal property at $277,500. This money continues to pay off the debt service requirements on the bonds purchased in 2002 to build the fire station. The council voted and approved a one-percent increase – the state limit – in the general fund levy, based on the county’s assessed valuation, Larson said.
The council also unanimously approved the Law Enforcement Information Exchange Northwest (LInX NW) Memorandum of Understanding. This is a regional information exchange which allows the Snoqualmie Police Department to connect with state and federal government databases to find out if they have had similar crimes, or have information on similar crimes that happened in Snoqualmie.
“If we have some type of criminal activity, we could check the resources of other agencies for similar patterns and get information from other agencies,” Larson said.
The council also approved an agreement between the City of Snoqualmie and King County for the county to install a Wi-Fi Network in Snoqualmie from Falls Avenue Southeast to Southeast Maple Avenue, and from Southeast King Street to Southeast River Street. The project, a pilot project, will last for six months, ending before July of 2007.
