SNOQUALMIE – Snoqualmie’s City Council will be looking about the same this year as it did last year, with one notable exception.

At its Monday, Jan. 13 meeting, the City Council elected a mayor pro tem and council committees for 2003, action that always takes place at the first council meeting of the year.

Outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Dick Kirby nominated Councilwoman Marcia Korich for the position, while Councilman Greg Fullington nominated Councilman Matt Larson. Korich was elected with a 3-2 vote.

“I am honored and I appreciate the vote of confidence,” Korich said.

Other than filling in the for the mayor if he should become incapacitated, the mayor pro tem has no powers except for appointing the chairs of committees. Committee chairs attend all their respective committee’s meetings and help set the council meeting agenda.

Korich’s suggestions were received unanimously and the rest of the committee appointments remained the same as they had been in 2002 with Kirby heading the Planning and Parks Committee, Korich heading the Finance and Administra-tive Services Committee, Jay Rodne heading the Public Safety Committee, Fullington heading the Community Relations Committee and Larson heading the Public Works Committee.
