Snoqualmie Branch Library has crowd present for opening day

More than 40 persons were present Saturday

afternoon for an open house which marked the first

day’s operation of the Snoqualmie branch of the King

County Public Library. Housed in attractive quarters in the

town hall, the library opened with Miss Ella McDowell,

county librarian; Miss Georgia Sealoff, her first assistant,

and Miss Sara Dickinson, children’s librarian for the

county, in attendance. Mrs. Mark Nein, Snoqualmie

librarian, and the visiting librarians from county headquarters

were busy issuing books and taking registrations during

the afternoon.

Tea was served under auspices of the Snoqualmie Commercial Club with Mrs. R.E. Nye presiding at

the attractively appointed tea table. She was assisted by

Mrs. F.N. McCowan and Mrs. Dale Krebs. Attractive

floral decorations provided by Mrs. Nye and Mrs.

McCowan decorated counters and tables.

Books Displays Are of Interest

Some 1,600 books were to be found on new

shelves installed by the Commercial Club. Widely varied in

nature, the volumes had been carefully selected to

provide subjects of interest to all age groups.

Numerous interesting displays had also been arranged by the

librarians.

Donald Davenport, eighth-grade student, was the first to register for library service. A baseball fan,

he selected “World Series” by John R. Tunis as his

first book. Duane Davis, high school student, came

second. Duane made a complete survey of the library,

recognizing many of his old favorites on the shelves. He

selected “Touchdown” by Rowell, “Scudda-Hoo!”

Scudda-Hay” by Chamberlain, and a mystery, “The Blackbirder,”

by Hughes, for his dad.

Mrs. William E. Shinner brought her two little

girls, Katherine and Bobby Lou. Just learning to read, the

girls selected attractive picture books which they will

find interesting and easily read.

Visitors from Fall City, Carnation and

Snoqualmie Falls were present to view the new library and to

extend well wishes for success of the Snoqualmie branch.

Frank Hackney, Snoqualmie photographer and

president of the Commercial Club, was present to take

pictures of the opening.

The new library is open on Saturdays from 1 to

6 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
