Si View pool re-opens after renovation

The old pool at Si View Community Center has a fresh new look. Gone are the rusted doors, ancient painted concrete and broken drains. In their place are new fiberglass doors, new decking and pool liner and rebuilt drains.

“It looks like a whole new pool and the locker rooms look wonderful,” said Bridget O’Connell, Si View aquatics coordinator.

The refurbished pool opened March 5 after closing Dec. 22 for the extensive repairs. The project cost $167,370 and was authorized by the parks district board of commissioners to address deferred maintenance during the years the pool was managed by King County Parks.

The repairs required extensive work, said Larry Rhule, Si View operations manager. Six layers of paint on the pool deck were scraped away to install the new decking – a composite material used in food service and fish processing industries to create a skid-free surface that is able to be pressure washed, Rhule said. New concrete was poured to raise the deck four inches to make room for a tiled pool edge that keeps cleaning water out of the pool.
