School bond intact on May ballot

Not discouraged by last month’s 2 percent failure at the polls, the Snoqualmie Valley School District Board of Directors voted unanimously to send the $209 million construction bond back to voters as soon as possible.

The district will resubmit the bond, which pays for new schools and buys property to grow, to voters May 15. The decision last Thursday allows the bond to meet a filing deadline of March 23 in time for the May election.

Board members and bond supporters said the bond is a no-frills package that addresses he needs of a growing district.

February’s Prop. 1 failed to achieve the “supermajority” requirement and needed 414 more “Yes” votes, or for 166 “No” voters to change their minds, to pass. However, board members saw its 57 percent approval rating as a clear majority.
