Salish annexation case gets supreme court date

SNOQUALMIE – A Snoqualmie legal battle that would allow the city to annex land the Salish Lodge and Spa wants to build a 250-room facility on in the city’s urban growth area will go before the state Supreme Court later this month.

The city and Gateway Cascades (the company that owns the Salish) have been trying to work together to annex land northwest of the city limits that is adjacent to the present location of the Salish Lodge and Spa.

The city’s and Gateway Cascade’s efforts were stalled last year following a ruling by the state Supreme Court that said the petition method of annexation the city planned to use to include the land within city boundaries was unconstitutional.

That ruling was upheld by both the Washington State Boundary Review Board for King County and by a King County Superior Court judge who the city and Gateway Cascades brought their case before.

On Monday, Feb. 24, the city was notified that its case would be heard in conjunction with the Grant County Fire Protection District No. 5 vs. City of Moses Lake case (the case that set the precedent) when it is reconsidered by the state Supreme Court.

Arguments in the case are scheduled to begin Tuesday, March 25 in Olympia.
