Riding club back in the saddle again

NORTH BEND – What was once a proud part of the local equestrian community is getting another chance to ride, thanks to the efforts of a Valley woman spurring it on.
Deborah Marion, president of the Snoqualmie Valley Riding Club, has spent the last year revamping the club she took over, which used to be one of the more popular clubs in the Valley.
Started in 1942, the club had up to 200 members at its peak. It used to team up with the fire department to put on Alpine Days, and Marion has pictures of a gallant squad leading a parade down North Bend Way.
As members aged, though, the energy supporting the club dropped off and its membership fell to just two officers last year.
Marion heard about the group through the Sidekick 4-H Club and helped organize a cleanup of the group’s riding arena. As she learned more about it, she started to recruit new members from the families that were involved in the 4-H club’s horse competitions.
