Record story inaccurate

How North Bend plans to obtain more water rights was inaccurately reported in the April 11 edition of the Valley Record.

In the story, headlined “As time goes by,” it was described that North Bend could use an existing well to store water from the Snoqualmie River during the high-flow winter months so the city wouldn’t have to take as much out during the drier summer months.

However, that is not what North Bend intends to do. Instead, the city would use the well, which has been ready for use since 1995, to pump water from an underlying aquifer. At the same time, the city would use a second pump and pipe to divert water from the well directly to the Snoqualmie River or Silver Creek during low-flow summer months.

A report prepared by the city’s consultants indicates that this would not have an affect on the Snoqualmie River. Any water from the aquifer would be refilled during the rainy months.

North Bend plans to present its plan to the Department of Ecology later this month.

The Valley Record regrets the error.
