Railway Museum project halted

SNOQUALMIE – The Northwest Railway Museum’s efforts to build a Conservation and Restoration Center (CRC) has been stopped in its tracks again.
On April 16, the Snoqualmie City Council ruled at a special meeting that a hearing examiner’s decision made earlier this year be remanded back to him because he did not indicate that he had considered information regarding the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA).
“This delays the project for another ump-teen months,” said Northwest Railway Museum Director Richard Anderson.
The initial decision, the resolution of a hearing on Jan. 16, allowed Snoqualmie to grant two variances and issue a conditional use permit (CUP) to the museum to build a 8,400-square-foot CRC off Stoen Quarry Road. The CRC, which would have public access, would house train cars for repair while patrons watched.
Louise Luce and the McFadden family, both of whom own land close to the proposed CRC site, appealed the hearing examiner’s decision sending it to the City Council. The initial date of reviewing the decision on April 2 was delayed until April 16 due to problems getting clear, audible copies of the Jan. 16 meeting tapes to all of the City Council members for review.
