Oregon job lures away North Bend administrator

NORTH BEND – The city administrator who helped guide North Bend through its purchase of a portion of Tollgate Farm and is still in the process of negotiating the bureaucratic pitfalls of receiving more water rights from the state will likely accept a similar position in southern Oregon this week.

Phil Messina would become the next city administrator in Central Point, Ore., which has a population of about 13,460. Central Point’s City Council is expected to appoint him to the position at its meeting Thursday, Aug. 8.

Central Point is located in the Rogue Valley in southern Oregon, 35 miles north of the Oregon-California border on Interstate 5. It shares a boundary with its larger neighboring city, Medford. Unlike North Bend, it follows a council/manager form of government, although Messina will still retain the title of city administrator.
