Wildcats take KingCo 3A Title

Clear out some room on the wall in the gym! The first KingCo

banner for the fall ’99 season belongs to the Wildcat golf team!

Mount Si traveled to Maplewood Golf Course to take on Liberty for

the final match of the season. The team patronized the Patriots, turning in a

6-over par team score of 186 to Liberty’s 214.

Sean Armstrong provided more statistics to add to his

number-one ranking. He shot a career-best score of 4-under par 32 with four birdies

to medal the match. Sean Fallows and Aaron Svarthumle continued to put

the pressure on the Pats, both with birdies in the books and scores of

38. Derek Lee and David LaBelle put the lid on the win with scores of 39 each.

The match with Liberty capped a remarkable series by the `Cats.

On Wed., Sept 29, White River became their eighth victim of the season,

falling 191-204 at the Mount Si Golf Course.

In that event, Larson claimed medalist honors, shooting a 1-over

par score of 37. Fallows and Armstrong both shot a 38, LaBelle and Lee

left the greens with a 39 each, and Svarthumle rounded out the field

with a 40. In JV action, Brett Fallows, Jay-Michael Johnson and

Adam Vandebrake all shot 40. Matt Poth recorded a 41.

On Thursday, Sept. 30, the team traveled to Overlake Country Club

to take on Bellevue, but the home-course advantage gave the win to the

Wolverines by a final score of 198-205. Armstrong walked away with

medalist honors, shooting a 1-over par 36. Larson followed with a 38, Sean

Fallows with a 42, Svarthumle with a 44, and Lee finished with a 45.

Going into last Monday afternoon’s home match with

Skyline, Mount Si remained in first place in KingCo 3A, tied with Mercer

Island at 7-1. Fortunately, the irons were hot and so were the Wildcats when

they faced the Spartans. As a team, they shot 2-over par, soundly

defeating Skyline by a score of 182-201.

Leading the pack was Armstrong, who sank a 40-foot putt for an

eagle on the second hole to medal the match with a 2-under par finish of

34. Svarthumle had three birdies, shooting a 1-under par 35, and Sean

Fallows had three birdies for a score of 37. Rounding out the varsity

scores were Larson with a 37 and Lee with a 39.

Brandon Proudfoot led the JV with a score of 37. Vandebrake shot a 39.

Mount Si and Mercer Island finished the season with identical

8-1 records, with the `Cats taking the tie-breaker due to their earlier victory

over the Islanders. On Tuesday, Oct. 12, Sean Fallows, Armstrong,

Larson, Lee, LaBelle and Svarthumle represented Mount Si in the KingCo

Medalist Tournament. The Seaking District championship is scheduled for

Monday, Oct. 18, at the Rainier Golf Course.

great season.
