Wildcats place second in
first-ever meet
Mount Si’s new interscholastic gymnastics program got off to a
flying start Thursday evening with a three-way meet with Skyline
and Interlake. By the time the points were tallied, the `Cats had recorded a
second place finish, scoring 118.35 points to the Spartans’ 140.15 and the
Saints’ 112.5.
It was a remarkable showing for the first-year team. In individual
competition, the results were:
Beam _ 1. Naree Nelson, Skyline, 7.8 points. 2. Katie Tuttle,
Skyline, 7.25. 3. Jil Machalak, Skyline, 7.2. 4. Nikki Belt, Mount Si, 6.65. 5.
Yolanda Morton, Mount Si, 6.0.
Vault _ 1. Kathryn McAvoy, Skyline, 8.4. 2. Belt, Mount Si, 8.2.
3. Morton, Mount Si, 7.95. 4. Lynn Watson, Skyline, 7.7. 5. Tuttle,

More notably, two Mount Si gymnasts placed in the meet all-around
top three. Belt finished first with a score of 30.65, while Morton placed
third with a 27.8. They bookmarked Skyline’s Tuttle, who recorded a 30.4.
“For the first meet for the Wildcats, they did very well
individually and pulled together as a team,” said
a delighted coach Renee Tredo afterwards. “I am very proud of our
first showing this season.
Mount Si’s next meet is tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Newport High
School, when the `Cats and Interlake take to the floor against the 0-1 Patriots.
