Now I lay me down to sleep

The photographs portray delicate, tender moments of connection between parent and infant child.

They also are heart-breaking images of final goodbyes captured on film. They are the kind of portrait Snoqualmie photographer Brenda Huckle would be proud to take. She recently became a volunteer photographer for the non-profit Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep (NILMDTS) organization.

The organization, through a network of volunteer photographers, provides bereaved families with heirloom memories of their dead or dying newborn.

“I just want to be support for anybody that needs it,” Huckle said. “I would be honored to be able to record that for [families].”

NILMDTS began in 2005 after the death of co-founder Cheryl Haggard’s infant son, Maddox. She and her husband had been dreaming of the life their baby would have with a lifetime of milestones and family photographs. Instead, he lived just six days on life support.
