North Bend readies six-year transportation plan

NORTH BEND – Improving pedestrian and driver safety, reducing congestion and fixing streets in ill repair were the points of focus when city officials rolled out the latest version of the six-year Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) last week.

The proposed plan outlines more than $10 million in potential projects that could make life a little easier for area motorists. Cities are required by state law to present a new plan yearly. The latest version of the plan covers projects through 2009.

Residents will have a chance to comment on the proposed plan during a public hearing scheduled for the July 22 North Bend City Council meeting.

Public Works Director Ron Garrow said despite the hard economic times, with the city’s already awarded grants and federal funds, North Bend could potentially fund all the projects with current budgeting projections.
