NORTH BEND – North Bend City Council voted to move forward with a six-year transportation plan that includes the installation of two roundabout intersections in one of the city’s busiest streets.
The roundabouts, approved by the council at its July 22 meeting, will be single-lane yield-entry in style, according to Public Works Director Ron Garrow. Vehicles already inside the loop will have the right of way and incoming drivers must yield, not stop, as they enter.
The two roundabouts will be located at the Cedar Falls/North Bend Way intersection (in front of Les Schwab) and on North Bend Way between the QFC parking lot and the post office. Work on the Cedar Falls/North Bend Way project is slated to begin in April of next year. The second roundabout will not break ground until 2007.
According to Garrow, both intersections are often heavily congested and the scenes of far too many accidents.
