Mount Si High school is undergoing a transition from athletic facilities straight out of 1950 into a modern athletic facility. The above graphic shows the many changes. Demolition of the existing facilities has already taken place.
First is the new football field, track, baseball and softball fields. The track will feature an all weather surface called “Mondo” track. All track venues will feature the synthetic material for competition in all types of weather. The field in the center of the track will be natural turf. Bleachers will face the track area with visitor bleachers facing the football field directly beside the track bleachers.
The football/soccer field will feature synthetic turf and feature covered grandstands, a rarity in newer stadiums. The grandstand will have seating for 1,600 people. The field will be elevated to allow potential flood waters to safely convey underneath the field. The football/soccer field also will be illuminated.
Next will be a baseball field featuring a 380 foot fence and natural grass out and infield. New batting cages and bullpen will be adjacent to the field.
There also will be a new softball field featuring a 200 foot fence and natural grass field with sand infield.
Adjacent to the softball field will be batting cages and a bullpen.
The entire complex will feature restrooms and a concession stand centered in the facility for access by any sport that may be going on at the complex.
The gymnasium also is undergoing major renovations. The original structure was built in the late 1970’s. Additions will include a second auxiliary gymnasium, a new strength and conditioning area, a new sports medicine area, new storage and a new classroom. The current weight room located on the mezzanine will be renovated for other uses.
Construction is scheduled to be completed in September 2005 on most phases of the project depending on permitting and the weather.
