Five months after her son died in a single-car crash, Snoqualmie resident Debra Whalawitsa has been charged in connection with the wreck.

King County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Amy Freedheim filed a single count of felony hit and run on Monday, May 7, in King County Superior Court for a car crash that killed 29-year-old Calijah Whalawitsa.

Dan Donohoe, spokes-man for the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, said there was insufficient evidence for a charge of vehicular homicide. However, the charge of felony hit and run involving a death carries the same sentence range as vehicular homicide, between 31 and 41 months in prison.
