Midwinter break is back on

The Snoqualmie Valley School District Board of Directors may have jumped the gun when board members voted last month to schedule makeup days during the February midwinter break.

After meeting behind closed doors for more than an hour Jan. 31, the board reversed its earlier decision citing “new information.” The Feb. 20-23 break now is back on the school calendar, meaning students and teachers will not be in school those days.

“It’s one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make on this board,” said board president Kristy Sullivan. She said board members realize changing their minds will cause hardships for families who already have altered vacation plans, but the board risked greater damage to its relationship with teachers in the long run if it stuck with the original decision.
