Results of last home SMS meet

Two of three Snoqualmie Middle School girls’ track teams successfully defeated Islander Middle School teams May 20 at Mount Si High School. The sixth- and eighth-grade teams were triumphant in their last home meet of the season.

The eighth-grade team was led by Annie McElroy and Ashley Wright, both taking double wins in their events. McElroy placed first in the high jump and the 400 run, while Wright placed first in the shot and discus events. The other first came from Kelcey Simpson in the long jump with a new personal best in that event. Simpson also took second in the 800, and third in the hurdles. Other place winners were Kelsey Wise with a second in the hurdles and 200; Sara Hilleary with a second in discus and a third in the 200; Cailee Olson with a second in shot and a third in discus; Bobbie Buzzell with a third in the long jump; and Haley Williamson with a third in shot.

In the sixth-grade meet it was the sheer depth of talent that led the girls to the win. Tracy Nelson took first-place finishes in the hurdles and high jump, while Marika Loudenback jumped to first in the long jump and Megan Past ran to a first place in the 800 run. Taking seconds were Alex Rudd in the 1,600 and 800 runs; Lauren Snead in the hurdles; Emily Beekman in the discus; Emily Mauhl in the shot; Kelsey Manson in the high jump; and Laudenback in the 100. Despite missing a few team members due to injury and illness, the seventh-grade girls gave the Islander gals an admirable challenge to the end. Outstanding performances by Danielle Crabtree in the 800 and hurdles led the way. Taking a first place along with Crabtree was Shelby Westerlund in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches, a new personal best as well as number two on the all-time top 10 list. Westerlund also placed second in the hurdles. Other second-place finishers were Brittney Conway in the 800 and 200; Sara Moran in the 400; Kristina Johnson in the 100; and Leah Wiley in the shot. Rebecca Carter placed third in the discus for the seventh-grade team. The medley and 800 relays also finished in first place.

Final meet a success for SMS

Despite continuous rainfall, the Snoqualmie Middle School girls’ track team finished with both the sixth- and seventh-grade teams winning their final regular season meets on May 27 against Tolt Middle School. The eighth-grade Eagles’ lack of depth gave way to the Thunderbird victory in that meet.

The sixth-grade girls took nine of 13 events with first-place finishes. Lauren Snead led the sweep in the hurdles and ran to a new personal record and top-10 time. Other teammates finishing first were Marika Loudenback with wins in the 100 and the long jump; Megan Past in the 1,600; Alex Rudd in the 800; Emily Beekman in the discus; Traci Nelson in the high jump; and the medley and 800-relay teams. Taking seconds were Allysa Melin in the 200; Kyla Lindberg in the long jump; Nelson in the hurdles and Past in the 400. Capturing thirds were Emily Mauhl with a new personal record and top-10 shot put throw; Emily Ferree in the 400; Lauren Burdulis in the discus; Shelagh MacCauley in the hurdles and high jump; and Rudd in the 1,600 run.

The seventh-grade team was led by Danielle Crabtree with double wins in the hurdles and 800; Shelby Westerlund in the high jump; Aasha Morrill in the discus; and Kristina Johnson in the 100. Running to a third-place finish in the 200 was Olivia Guterson. The medley and 800-relay teams also finished in first place.

The eighth-grade meet saw an outstanding performance by Ashley Wright in the shot with a throw of 28 feet, 2.75 inches for a personal record and top-10 finish. She also took a third in the discus. Taking second-place honors were Annie McElroy in the 400 and high jump; Kelsey Wise in the hurdles; and Sara Hilleary in the discus. The sole third-place finish went to Wise in the long jump.
